Art Galleries and Museums
The King's Palace
The King's Palace, a beautifully crafted thatched edifice shaped like a beehive, is a copy of the old royal residence.
In the back, a few long-horned Inyambo cattle inherited from the king's herd are cared for and sung to, preserving a unique custom.
Ethnographic Museum
The Ethnographic Museum, a gift from Belgium's King Badouin in the late 1980s, today includes one of Africa's greatest ethnographic collections.
Kigali Genocide Memorial
The Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi, officially opened on the 10th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, is the last resting place for 250,000 victims. This memorial also teaches about the Tutsi Genocide and looks into genocide in the twentieth century.
Rwanda Art Museum
This contemporary museum, formerly known as the Presidential Palace Museum, displays contemporary artworks from Rwanda and throughout the world. The museum's goal is to provide insight into the distinctiveness of Rwandan creativity.
Kandt House Museum
Richard Kandt was Germany's first colonial governor in Rwanda in the early 1900s. His former Kigali residence is now a museum examining life in Rwanda before, during, and after the colonial period.
Museum of the Environment
The little museum near Lake Kivu is intended to be a resource for our guests, many of whom are locals. Its purpose is to assist people in understanding and conserving their environment, as well as to ensure integrated and long-term development.
